New Customs Facility in Port of Helsingborg to enhance flows and security

To meet increasing demands for safety and efficiency, the Port of Helsingborg is investing SEK 55 million in a new customs facility in the Container Terminal. The decision marks an important milestone in the port’s long-term strategy to secure future logistics flows.

Together with the Swedish Customs (Tullverket), the Port of Helsingborg has identified a need to improve customs facilities in the Port area. The new customs facility, scheduled for completion by the end of the second quarter of 2026, will be located in the Container Terminal and replace the current solution in Warehouse 709.

To ensure uninterrupted operations during construction, the Port of Helsingborg will upgrade the current control point in Warehouse 709 for SEK 5 million. This will enable Swedish Customs to continue performing inspections with a high-security standard until the new facility is operational.

“The new customs facility is necessary to meet our customers’ future customs processing, security, and service requirements. It strengthens our position as a leading logistics hub in Northern Europe,” says Bart Steijaert, CEO of the Port of Helsingborg.

“The establishment in Västhamnen will allow us to work more efficiently with inspections while providing a better working environment. This decision creates the right conditions for our operations,” says Ulrika Scholander, Head of Control South, Swedish Customs.

“The Port of Helsingborg is Sweden’s second-largest container port and a key hub for southern Sweden’s business sector. This new investment is an important step in giving authorities better tools to combat crime, prevent unauthorised imports, and enhance security in the port,” says Christian Orsing, Chairman of the Municipal Executive Board, City of Helsingborg.
