July brought volume growth in the Port of Helsingborg and new investments ahead
July was a particularly strong month for volumes in the Port of Helsingborg. Container throughput increased by 22 percent compared to the same month last year, and year-to-date volumes are up by 10 percent measured in TEU*. Passenger traffic between Helsingborg and Elsinore also continues to show solid development, with almost 4 million travellers so far in 2025, a 2 percent increase.
“We are seeing stabilisation in the market and are pleased to be able to meet demand with high capacity and strong service. The positive development in container traffic during the summer is especially encouraging,” says Bart Steijaert, CEO of the Port of Helsingborg.
Investments in safety and the port of the future
Alongside the volume growth, the Port is planning a new customs building that will strengthen both safety and service for customers and partners. At the same time, preparations are underway for shore power to the container segment, an important step in further reducing the Port’s climate impact. Sustainability efforts continue in other areas as well. In the near future, Svitzer Balder will arrive – a battery-hybrid tugboat, the first of its kind in the Sound, to be stationed in the Port of Helsingborg.
Looking ahead: a strong harvest could boost bulk
Lantmännen’s facility in the Port is one of Sweden’s largest for grain handling, and forecasts point to a strong harvest this year. This raises expectations for increased bulk volumes going forward.
“This year’s harvest outlook gives us reason for optimism. Combined with strong container volumes and continued stable ferry traffic, we are positive about the development for the autumn,” says Bart Steijaert.
