Port of Helsingborg handled record vessel call with more than 1,000 container moves
Following unforeseen changes at short notice in MSC’s regular service rotation, the Port of Helsingborg this week handled an unusually high-volume vessel call. The operation set a new record for the number of container moves during a single vessel call at the port.
Earlier this week, the container vessel MSC Kyungmin called at the Port of Helsingborg with higher volumes than normal. A large share of the cargo consisted of reefer containers, following unforeseen changes at short notice in MSC’s regular routing.
In total, 1,009 container moves were completed during the call – the highest number ever recorded at the port for a single vessel. All units were handled as planned, with no containers short shipped.
Despite adjusted schedules and changed conditions, the operation was carried out efficiently. The result was made possible through careful preparation, strong operational planning and flexible use of resources within the port’s standard operating framework.
“The flexibility and high productivity demonstrated by the Port of Helsingborg make it possible to handle efficient and high-quality port calls even when our vessels are affected by delays. Together, we show how strong cooperation and operational expertise deliver top-class results”, says Peter Hägg, Operations Director, MSC Sweden AB.
From the port’s perspective, planning and execution capability were key.
“When conditions changed at short notice, the demands on planning and coordination were high. Completing 1,009 container moves during a single call, fully according to plan, demonstrates the capacity and professionalism of our organisation”, says Sune Norup Christensen, CCO, Port of Helsingborg.
The call highlights the Port of Helsingborg’s ability to manage temporary capacity peaks while maintaining secure and efficient operations, even in a rapidly changing logistics environment.
